Anxious? Go For A Walk.
Ladies, we’re in pain. We feel anxious, overwhelmed, uncertain, afraid, lonely, isolated, angry, disappointed, lost, hopeless. This unhealthy emotional cocktail is making us unhealthy. It’s manifesting physically as sweating, hearts skipping beats, sleeplessness, racing thoughts, depression, uncontrolled angry outbursts.
The old tools in the toolbox are not working in the face of coronavirus and COVID-19. We can’t plan and we can’t strategize. We can’t even make any sense of where we are! How are we to move forward or plan and what would we be planning for?
What are we doing with our despair? Eating? Drinking? Bingeing? Or . . . eating/drinking/bingeing.
How’s that working? Well it turns out it’s not. So let’s try something else.
A recent study from the UK found that 60% of anxious adults reported walking helped them cope during lockdown. Try walking. As in . . . go for a walk.
This is one thing you can do. One thing proven to improve whole Self health. You can do this one thing and this one thing will make a big difference. It’s not a quick fix or a magic pill. But it is magic, it is powerful, it is life-changing. And it’s within your power right now.
Decide to walk—make a radical commitment to walk. I did and it worked for me during the darkest years I’ve ever experienced. Years filled with uncertainty and loss. Any time I was spinning out of control into eating/drinking/bingeing, I would get up and walk. It saved me then and it’s saving me again now. It will save you too.
Walking helps you become who and what you want to be, despite your circumstances. The invitation is this: choose to walk and you have chosen a health-giving, life-affirming activity. Choose to walk instead of choosing to eat/drink/binge.
I believe you deserve to be healthy, feel successful, and to love yourself. Walking, simply walking, will get you there.
I founded One Million Women Walking to help women get the daily exercise we need to live the happy, healthy, long lives we deserve. At the time my focus was on inspiring and empowering women to take this one simple life-changing, life-saving action—start walking. Now, more than ever, my focus is on inspiring and empowering women to take this one simple life-changing, life-saving action. I’d be thrilled to have you join us, I’d be honored to lead you, and I would be privileged to walk with you.
