Winter Magic

If it’s going to be cold, then use that cold to create some incredibly beautiful winter magic! That’s my big takeaway from an afternoon’s walk at Rush River Ice Sculptures.

Plumber Roger Nelson, who owns the farm where the ice sculptures are located, tapped an artesian spring, ran a lot of PVC pipe, let water and subzero temps combine and the rest, as you can see, is pure magic.

I put on my trusty Yaktrax for good gripping on the ice and took a nice long walk/wander through these magical, wonderful ice creatures. Like snowmen, each one has its own personality and charm. I felt like I was walking amidst a tribe of benevolent, joyful ice giants. (Note: there are 50 ice sculptures!)

If you happen to be in the Upper Midwest this winter, it’s well worth the time to go visit Rush River Ice Sculptures. And, Mr Nelson lights them up at night, so I’ll be going back for the nocturnal experience.

I hope your winter walks include some dazzling beauty and quirky surprises along with the fresh air and other health benefits. Your whole Self (body, mind, and spirit) deserves the very best winter you can create. I believe the best way to do that is on foot, outside, walking with an attitude of gratitude and curiosity—what is around the next bend?

Happy Walking!
