Celebrating Women Taking Care of Business

October is National Women’s Small Business Month! As a fempreneur who owns, runs, dreams, breathes and walks her business every day, I welcome this opportunity to acknowledge my sister fempreneurs and do a little bragging on us as well.

Turns out, to no one’s big surprise, we women are taking care of business, literally in every way imaginable. Here’s some stats on us:

  • Women own nearly 13,000,000 businesses in the US.

  • Women owned businesses generate $1.9 trillion annually in revenue.

  • Women own nearly 42% of the businesses in the US.

  • Women start, on average, 1,817 new businesses in the US.

Who are we? We’re femprenuers, mompreneurs, sidepreneurs. We are women who recognized a need in a market and stepped in to fill that need. We are women who want more flexibility with our time. We are women who are underemployed. We are women who want to make more money with our skills and talents.

We are women who took action to improve our lives and the lives of others. We are women who are walking our talk every day and every way.

How many women do you know who own their own business? Who have a side-hustle they hustle to make ends meet, to express themselves, to give back? How many moms do you know who juggle motherhood and business-hood on a daily basis? Given the stats, I imagine you know more than a few.

So this October, I have a simple request of you: take a moment to tell the fempreneurs you know congratulations. Tell them that they are making a difference, that they are inspirations.

With my business, One Million Women Walking, I’m on a mission to inspire and empower 1,000,000 women to transform their lives by simply walking. My focus is on my fellow fempreneurs and women business owners. I supply resources and community to support women in taking care of themselves so they can take care of business. When we treat ourselves as what we are—the #1 asset in our businesses—we prioritize our health and well-being, which in turn translates to increased productivity, creativity and focus. My fellow fempreneurs please know this: caring for yourSelf is caring for your business.

Here’s a quote that has been in my heart and mind for several years now: “The potential of women entrepreneurs for spurring economic growth has not been fully realized.” (2019 State of Women-Owned Business Report.) I like the sound of that. I very much resonate with our potential being fully realized. That lights me up like nothing else.

So . . . keep up the good work fellow fempreneurs! Putting our dreams into action is mission critical for us all. My dream is supporting you in caring deeply and meaningfully for yourself every day so that you are whole, healthy and resilient. Then you can bring your whole Self to your business!

Each and every one of you is near and dear to me, here’s why:

Attention Fellow Fempreneurs and Women Business Owners!

  • Are you a fempreneur or woman business owner who is running on empty?

  • Do you constantly shelve your Self-care to take care of “one more thing”?

  • And meanwhile, is the little voice inside your head constantly saying, “I have got to do something to take care of myself!?”

I created The Walking Women community just for us. Join our members-only, like-minded, like-hearted community to take care of yourself with daily walks. You can walk on your own schedule, get the accountability and support you need, and be rewarded for taking care of you!
